Ingredients
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 Tbsp lemon zest
- 2 whole star anise
- 6 crushed whole cardamon pods
- 6-8 black peppercorns
- 2 cups, plus 2 qts water, divided
- 1 cup fresh blueberries
- 12 regular-sized tea bags

Preparation
Step 1
1. Stir together sugar, zest, star anise, cardamon, peppercorns and 2 cups water in a saucepan over medium; bring to boil.
2. Add blueberries, reduce heat to low. cover and simmer for 8 minutes.
3. Remove from heat and let cool. Using a potato masher, mash blueberries into syrup. Pour through a fine wire-mesh strainer into a bowl. Discard solids.
4. Bring 2 quarts of water to a boil in a medium saucepan over high. Add tea bags and remove from heat. Cover and let stand 7 minutes. Discard bags and stir in blueberry syrup.
