Spaghetti and Beef Casserole

Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 2 medium onions, chopped
  • 2 (4 oz. cans) stems and pieces, mushrooms, undrained
  • 2 (8 oz. cans) tomato sauce
  • 1 (6 oz. can) tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon ground oregano
  • 14 ounces spaghetti, package
  • 1 (8 oz. package) cream cheese, softened
  • 2 cups cottage cheese
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 cup fresh chives
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup buttered bread crumbs

Preparation

Step 1

Heat oil in heavy skillet...
1. Add ground beef and onion.
2. Sauté until browned, stirring to crumble; drain.

Combine mushrooms, tomato sauce, tomato paste, oregano, and garlic powder.
1. Add to meat mixture.
2. Mix well.
3. Simmer, uncovered, 15 minutes.

Cook the spaghetti according to package directions; drain.
1. Place half of the spaghetti in a buttered 13x9x2 inch baking dish.
2. Combine cream cheese, cottage cheese, chives and sour cream; mix well.
3. Spoon cheese mixture over spaghetti layer, spreading evenly.
4. Place remaining spaghetti over cheese mixture.
5. Pour meat sauce over spaghetti; sprinkle with bread crumbs.

Bake at 350° F for 30 minutes or until bubbly.
