Ingredients

  • 1/2 C. oatmeal
  • 4 1/2 tsp. shortening
  • 1 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 4 1/2 tsp. molasses
  • 1/4 C. sugar
  • 1 C. boiling water
  • 1/2 pkg. yeast
  • 1 1/2 tsp. sugar
  • 1/4 C. lukewarm water
  • 3 C. flour

Preparation

Step 1

Pour boiling water over first five ingredients. Let stand until lukewarm.

Dissolve yeast and extra sugar in 1/4 C. lukewarm water and add to mixture. Add flour and knead until firm.

Let stand until double in size. Punch down and divide into 2 loaves. Let rise again until double in size.

Bake at 350 for 1 hour.
