Poor Man's Stuffed Cabbage

Simple way to make stuffed cabbage without having to stuff the cabbage

Ingredients

  • 1.5 pound ground pork
  • 1.5 pound ground beef
  • 1 large diced onion
  • 2 stalks diced celery
  • 4 cloves diced garlic
  • 2 tablespoons oil or bacon fat
  • 3 pound head of cabbage
  • 1.5 cups of tomato sauce
  • 2 cups cooked white rice
  • salt
  • pepper

Preparation

Step 1

Heat oven to 350 degrees
Par boil, then shred cabbage. Save large cabbage leaves to line deep baking dish
Brown together the pork and beef. Do not drain fat
Saute in oil or bacon fat the onion, celery and garlic
Mix above ingredients together in a large mixing bowl
Season with salt and pepper
Add tomato sauce until moist
Pour mixture nto cabbage leaf lined baking dish. Cover with remaining large cabbage leaves.
Cover with foil.
Bake for 2 hours
