Preparation

Step 1

Mix together eight cups all-purpose flour, 1/3 cup baking powder, 2 teaspoons salt and 8 teaspoons sugar (optional.)

With a pastry blender, cut in 1 cup shortening to a very fine consistency. Store in covered airtight containers. This mixture will stay fresh for quite some time in your cupboard or will stay fresh for months if refrigerated.

To make the biscuits, just add 1/3 cup of milk for every cup of biscuit mix. Mix well. Roll out on a floured board and cut. Bake in a 425°F oven until lightly browned. You can also use this mix for pancakes, etc. (Heloise)
