Ingredients
- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 egg
- 2 tablespoons milk
- 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
- 3 cups flour
- 1 7 1/2 oz. package toffee pieces

Preparation
Step 1
1. Beat butter and shortening in a large mixing bowl with an electric mixer on medium to high speed for 30 seconds. Add brown sugar, baking powder and soda and salt. Beat until combined, scraping sides of bowl occasionally. Beat in egg, milk and almond extract until combined. Beat as much flour as you can with the mixer. Stir in almond toffee pieces and any remaining flour with a wooden spoon.
2. Shape dough into 2, 10 inch long rolls. Wrap in plastic wrap or waxed paper. Chill for 4-24 hours or until firm enough to slice.
3. Cut rolls into ¼" slices. Place slices 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake in a 350F oven about 14 minutes or until edges are firm. Cook on baking sheets 4 mins, then transfer to wire racks and cool.
