Baked Beans

Ingredients

  • 4 strips 4 strips thick cut bacon cut into 1/4ths
  • 2 medium 2 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 1/2 1/2 green bell pepper finely chopped
  • 2 cloves 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 15 oz cans 2 15 oz cans kidney beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1/3 c 1/3 c molasses
  • 1/4 c 1/4 c bbq sauce
  • 1/4 c 1/4 c ketchup
  • 3 tbsp 3 tbsp dark brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp 1 tbsp worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp 1 tbsp prepared mustard
  • 1 tbsp 1 tbsp dried mustard
  • 1 tbsp 1 tbsp cider vinegar
  • 1/4 tsp 1/4 tsp liquid smoke
  • salt and pepper to taste

Preparation

Step 1

Cook bacon in a heavy pot over medium heat. Discard all but 2 tbsp fat. Add onion, pepper and garlic. Cook until soft.

Stir in beans, molasses, BBQ sauce, ketchup, worcestershire sauce, mustards, vinegar and liquid smoke. Simmer beans, uncovered until thick and flavored, about 10-15 mins.

Place in a baking dish at 350 degrees for 30 mins. Add salt and pepper.
