Little Nut Rolls

Ingredients

  • Bake 350 for 20 mins.
  • 4 c. flour
  • 3 pkg dry yeast
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 c. margarine/butter
  • 1 c. milk
  • 2 tsp. vanilla

Preparation

Step 1

Bake 350 for 20 mins.

Sift dry ingredients, cut in shortening until fine crumbs. Mix yeast with flour. Beat egg yolk and vanilla in bowl. Add milk, then add crumbs to make a soft dough. Cover with towel, refrigerate over night.

Cut into quarters. Roll out one at a time to 1/4" thick. Spread on the desired filling (nuts or poppy seeds). Cut 3" square. Roll on sugar board instead of flour board.

NUT FILLING:
Bring nuts, add 2 c. sugar; 1 c. boiling water, 1/2 tsp vanilla and mix.
Heat over low heat (never hot) for short time.. Let cool then put on dough.

POPPY SEED FILLING:
1 jar of poppy seeds, 1/2 c. sugar and 1 egg. DO NOT COOK, just spread.
