Ingredients

  • 1/2

    cup (1 stick) unsalted butter

  • 1

    cup packed dark brown sugar

  • 1

    egg

  • 1

    teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1/4

    cup bourbon

  • 1 1/4

    cups flour

  • 1/4

    teaspoon salt

  • 4

    ounces dark chocolate, chopped

  • 1/2

    cup chopped pecans

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line an 8-by-8-inch pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on two sides. Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Continue to cook, stirring often, until butter is brown and smells nutty, about 3 to 4 minutes. Make sure to scrape bottom of pan as you stir to avoid burning. Transfer browned butter to bowl of a stand mixer and let cool 10 minutes. Add brown sugar and beat until smooth. Add egg, vanilla and bourbon and mix to combine. Add flour and salt and mix until just combined. Stir in chocolate and pecans. Transfer batter to prepared pan and spread into an even layer. Bake in preheated oven 20 to 35 minutes, until center is just set. Let cool in pan, then use parchment overhang to remove from the pan. Slice and serve.
