Beef Stew With Gherkins (Czech)

Someone said, "This is so DELICIOUS, you will never want to make "regular" beef stew again!" I don't know about that but it is good. What I do know is that this recipe has been around a long time and every time I make it all who try it like it.

Ingredients
- 4 slices bacon, cut 1" length
- 3 pounds beef stew meat
- salt and pepper
- 8 ounces mushrooms, quartered
- 1 large sliced onion
- 1 tablespoon paprika
- 1/2 cup burgundy
- 1 can beef broth
- 1 jar gherkin, small jar, sweet, cut in half
- hot cooked rice
Preparation
Step 1
Fry bacon and remove.
Salt and pepper stew meat and brown in bacon drippings.
Set aside.
Sauté onion and mushrooms in drippings, adding 1 Tbsp. oil if necessary.
Combine all ingredients except gherkins, bacon and rice in Crockpot and cook for 4 hours on high or 6 hrs. on low.
1. Stir in some flour mixed with water to thicken juice if necessary.
2. Stir in pickles and bacon.
Serve over hot rice.
