Candied Bacon

Ingredients

  • 1 lb. Maple/Brown Sugar Thick Bacon
  • 1/2 cup of Maple Syrup
  • 1/2 cup of Brown Sugar
  • 1/2 cup of Bourbon
  • 1/2 tsp. of Cinnamon
  • Paper Towels
  • Large Cookie Sheet
  • Saucepan
  • Aluminum Foil
  • Basting Brush

Preparation

Step 1

1. Preheat oven to 375°
2. Cook bacon until crisp (every microwave (bacon cooks flat in the microwave) is different, I cooked mine 5 minutes on high with 4 layers of paper towels beneath the bacon and on top of the beacon. I did not use a plate)
3. Line large cookie sheet with aluminum foil (my sheet hold 10 pieces of bacon, if you can’t fit all the bacon on the sheet you’ll have to reline the pan with aluminum foil after the first batch is cooked)
4. Place cooked bacon on the cookie sheet
5. In a saucepan, combine maple syrup, brown sugar, bourbon and cinnamon
6. On a low-medium heat and stir the mixture (I’ve never used a candy thermometer for this, I just eyeball it when it starts to get thick, but still loose enough to spread with a basting brush)
7. Baste the bacon on one side with the maple syrup mixture
8. Cook for 6 minutes
9. Flip bacon and baste with maple syrup mixture
10. Cook for 6 minutes
