1 Cup Chocolate Sprinkles

Ingredients

  • Chocolate Cake Recipe
  • Make one 8 inch two layer chocolate cake.
  • 3/4 Tablespoon Baking Soda
  • 1/3 Cup Butter
  • 2 3/4 Teaspoons Buttermilk
  • 1/4 Cup Cocoa
  • 1 3/4 Cup Cake Flour
  • 1 1/2 Teaspoon Salt
  • 1/3 Cup Crisco Shortening
  • 1 3/4 Cup Granulated Sugar
  • 1 1/2 Cups Buttermilk Divided
  • 3 Whole Eggs
  • Chocolate Fudge Icing recipe
  • 1 Tablespoon light corn syrup
  • 1/3 Cup Butter
  • 2 Drops Vanilla
  • 5 Tablespoons Simple Syrup Divided (recipe follows)
  • 1/3 Cup Chocolate Fudge Base (recipe follows)
  • 4 Cups Powdered Sugar
  • 3 Tablespoons Water
  • Simple Syrup recipe
  • 1 Tablespoon Light Corn Syrup
  • 2 1/2 Tablespoons Hot Water
  • 2 1/2 Tablespoons Granulated Sugar
  • In a sauce pan combine corn syrup, hot water and sugar. Heat and stir until sugar dissolves. Let cool to room temperature before using.
  • MAKES APPROXIMATELY 6 TABLESPOONS
  • Chocolate Fudge Base recipe
  • 7 1/2 Tablespoons Cocoa
  • 1 Tablespoon Sunflower Seed Oil
  • 1 3/4 Tablespoons Crisco Shortening
  • 2 1/2 Teaspoons Light Corn Syrup
  • 2 Drops Vanilla
  • Add cocoa, sunflower seed oil, shortening, corn syrup and vanilla to mixing bowl. Mix at low speed until smooth.

  • Canasta Buttercream Icing recipe
  • 1 Cup Butter
  • 1/2 Cup Crisco Shortening
  • 3 Cups Powdered Sugar
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Vanilla
  • 1/4 Teaspoon Salt
  • 4 Tablespoons Marshmallow Crème
  • Evaporated Milk if Needed

Preparation

Step 1

Chocolate Cake directions:
Lightly grease two 8 inch cake pans; set aside.

Add baking soda, butter, 2 ¾ teaspoons buttermilk, cocoa, cake flour, salt, shortening and sugar into mixing bowl. Mix 2 minutes at low speed. Scrape bowl.

Add ¼ cup of buttermilk and mix for three minutes at medium speed. Scrape bowl.

Add ½ cup buttermilk and mix for 2 minutes at low speed. Scrape bowl.

Add 3 whole eggs and mix for 2 minutes at low speed. Scrape bowl.

Add ¾ cup buttermilk and mix for 3 minutes at low speed. Scrape bowl.

Pour batter into prepared cake pans, filling them ½ full and baking for approximately 25 minutes or until wooden pick comes out clean when inserted in center. Immediately invert cake onto serving plate; cool completely.

Canasta Buttercream Icing recipe instructions:
Place butter into a bowl and mix until it is soft then add shortening and blend until smooth.

Add sugar, vanilla and salt to the bowl and blend on low speed until smooth.

Add marshmallow fluff and blend in until thoroughly mixed. Use a small amount of evaporated milk to thin the icing if it is too thick.

Assembly instructions

Once chocolate cake is made, place chocolate fudge icing between the two layers of chocolate cake. You will then ice the top of the cake with chocolate fudge icing. Ice the sides of the cake with canasta buttercream icing. Once buttercream icing is applied then add chocolate sprinkles to the side of the bottom layer.
