Amish onion patties

The taste of onion rings with less effort and less mess.

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup flour
  • 1 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1 Tbsp. cornmeal
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 2 tsp. salt (adjust the salt to your family’s taste-I only use 1 tsp.)
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 2 &1/2 cups chopped onions (about 2 small onions)
  • oil for frying

Preparation

Step 1

Mix together dry ingredients.
Add milk & stir; batter will be thick.
Add onions & mix thoroughly.
Heat 1/2 inch oil in skillet over medium high heat.
Drop batter by tablespoons in hot oil; flatten slightly.
Brown on both sides until nice and crisp.
Drain on paper towels.
