Baked Beans

Ingredients

  • 2 cups white beans
  • 1 onion chopped
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1 TBSP yellow mustard
  • slab of salt pork or ham

Preparation

Step 1

Soak beans overnight in cold water. Simmer the beans in the same water until tender, approximately 1 to 2 hours. Drain and reserve the liquid.

Preheat oven 350 degrees.

Put salt pork in large casserole dish with cover and put in oven to render while beans are simmering.

Place beans in casserole dish and mix in other ingredients. Pour in just enough of the reserved bean water to cover the beans. Cover and Bake at 325 until tender (3-4 hrs), add water if beans become dry while baking. Once tender, add salt to season to your personal taste. (Remove cover half way though to brown the beans)

If you don't have salt pork, put a piece of ham in with the beans when they are boiling.
