Ingredients
- FOR THE SEASONING:
- 1 tablespoon seasoning salt
- 1 tablespoon red pepper flakes
- 2 teaspoons cayenne pepper
- 2 teaspoons poultry seasoning
- 1 teaspoon lemon pepper
- Freshly ground black pepper
- 3 pounds chicken wings, split at the joint, tips removed
- .......................................
- FOR THE BATTER:
- 2 large eggs
- 2 tablespoons hot sauce
- 1 tablespoon red pepper flakes
- 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- Freshly ground black pepper
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- Vegetable oil, for frying
- ...................................
- DIPPING SAUCE:
- 1 cup sour cream
- 2 tablespoons horseradish
- 1/4 cup chili sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
Preparation
Step 1
MAKE THE SEASONING:
Whisk the seasoning salt, red pepper flakes, cayenne, poultry seasoning, lemon pepper and 2 teaspoons black pepper in a small bowl. Set aside 2 tablespoons seasoning in a separate bowl.
Rinse the wings under cold water and place in a shallow baking dish. Sprinkle with the seasoning, then refrigerate, covered, 1 hour.
MAKE THE BATTER:
Whisk the eggs, hot sauce, red pepper flakes, cayenne and 1 teaspoon black pepper in a medium bowl. Put the flour in a shallow dish or pie plate.
In a large deep fryer or Dutch oven, heat 2 inches of vegetable oil until a deep-fry thermometer registers 350 degrees F. Dip the wings in the eggs, then in the flour. Place the wings, three at a time, in the hot oil and fry until golden, 8 to 10 minutes, turning occasionally. Transfer to a paper-towel-lined baking sheet. Make sure the oil returns to 350 degrees F before adding the next batch. Sprinkle the wings with the reserved seasoning to make them extra hot.
MAKE THE SAUCE:
Mix the sour cream, horseradish, chili sauce, cayenne, and salt and black pepper to taste. Serve with the wings.

REVIEWS:
I made these last night for dinner and followed the recipe almost exactly, except I added a little chipotle pepper--my latest favorite spice--to the batter (perhaps 1/4 tsp(? (I'm not one to measure things exactly. (Oh, I did omit the lemon pepper as it is not one of my favorite spices, and I didn't think it would add much to the flavor. Plus, instead of the Neelys' spicy dipping sauce, I made Bobby Flay's Blue Cheese/Celery Dipping Sauce . Excellent combo!! Wings were extremely tasty: crunchy and spicy on the outside, moist and tender on the inside. Believe it or not, it's the first time I ever fried chicken! Very easy to make. Just remember to make ahead of time so wings can marinate in the refrigerator for at least an hour before frying. Thank you Gina and Pat for such a tasty recipe!!
WOW, WOW, WOW amazing. I love wings and this recipe killssss it!!!! Sooooo gooood. The dipping sauce is a little funky, I'll pass on it next time. Best recipe everrrr!
Great recipe my picky eating kids loooooooved it, I left out the crushed peppers and lemon pepper and added other seasonings
DELISH!!!! LOVE THESE WINGS!
OMG - Wonderful!
Ok, so when my wings finished I was positive that I had done something wrong because they were so ugly..lol! They were a little too hot for me and the hubby but we tried to keep eating them because they tasted pretty good. Next time we will probably do without the extra seasoning in the batter. The dipping sause was also good, it was different from the usual ranch dressing (def something new to us All-in-all, we enjoyed this recipe. Thanks Neely's
Awesome recipe!!! Made these today minus the lemon pepper and they were amazing. This was my first time making my own wings. Surprised by the ease of the recipe. I let the chicken marinate over night. They turned out delicious. I will make these again over and over. Add more cayenne pepper and crushed red peppers if you like them REALLY spicy. Thanks Neely's!
My family (kids 11 and 7 loved this recipe so much! My husband asks for them all the time!
Made the dipping sauce tonight and it is GREAT! Better than Ranch to us! Have the wings drizzled/marinating with the spices to cook tomorrow. If the wings taste as great as the dipping sauce does, all I can say is YUM, lucky us!! I give 5 stars just for the dipping sauce! We both love horseradish, so it is a winner with us!
These are amazing! A lot of work but sooooo worth the while! I am my son's new hero!
This recipe is definitely five star!! Delicous and yes it is really spiced up but not too hot for me. Maybe a little warm for kids but if there are kids present one could always make hot dogs for them. I will definitely make these over and over. I will probably make them just for me!!! Thank You Neelys for the wonderful recipe!
These are Fabulous!!! Such a grand hit during holidays! : Thank you Neelys!
These are my go-to wings now. My family loves these wings! I can adjust the spicyness to be mild, kinda hot or full on spicy. This is the best wing recipe that I have came across thus far (and I have tried A LOT of wing recipes!
My husband really loved it when I made these & I'm definitely planning to make them again!
Easy and delicious. The wings and sauce were a big hit! Definitely a go to recipe. Thank you, Mr. and Mrs. Neely!
Made these for my husband & I to try. He' s a harsh food critic but he loved these wings. Granted, he didn't even try the sauce but I did. It's different, that's for sure but I used extra hot horseradish too : LOL we like hot. Also, I added seasoning to the flour mix as I do when making fried chicken. Lastly, I cooked them how I cook fried chicken too....a couple inches oil in pan, cooked on each side like 6-7 minutes as we like them pretty crispy. YUM!! Now I need a recipe for saucy baked wings, anyone know a really good one?
This recipe was great!! The heat sort of snucks up on you! I do recommend cooking them a little longer. I like the honey idea, I'm going to try that next time.
I've made these twice and love them. They are so easy. The only thing I do differently is mix Frank's hot sauce and honey and serve that with them. Yummm!
I made these wings for my book club recently and they were a hit!! Everyone wanted to recipe! I would suggest cooking them a bit longer, maybe 12 minutes per batch.
First time making wings at home a few weeks ago and made these..Hubby loved em making again for superbowl. Will use all the seasoning next time' I cut back due to scared of spice level.
Invited to a Wings Throw Down for the playoffs, Pats' wings brought me the win! More of a spicy fried chicken than traditional sauce coated wings but with the flavor normally added via the sauce. They're not the pretiest, but they bring home the flavor.
We fixed these wings and we LOVED them! They were SOOOOOO good! They have a wonderful flavor and the dipping sauce is great! They are a nice change from your normal fried wings! 5 stars!
