Ingredients
- 2/3 cup shortening
- 1 1/2 cup sugar
- 2 eggs
- 2 oz red food coloring
- 2 tbsp cocoa
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 2 1/4 cup cake flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp vinegar
- Frosting
- 4 tbsp flour
- 1 cup milk
- 1 cup sugar (powdered)
- 1 cup butter (margarine)
- 1 tsp vanilla

Step 1
Cake
Cream sugar and eggs. Make a paste of food coloring and cocoa, add to the sugar mixture. combine flour, soda and salt add to butter mixer alternatively with the mil then add vanilla then add vinegar and stir. Pour in 2 greased and paper lined 8” pans. Bake at 350 for 30 40 minutes
Frosting
Cook flour and milk together until thick and smooth stirring constantly. Cool. Cream sugar butter and vanilla until very fluffy. Add to the cooled mix and frost cake
