Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup brown sugar, lightly packed
  • 1/2 cup sugar, granulated
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 eggs, large
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 cups flour, unbleached or all-purpose
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat oven to 350º F and grease a 9" x 13" pan.
In a large bowl, on low speed cream together the softened butter, sugars and salt. Add the eggs and vanilla extract, beat at medium-high speed until light and fluffy, approximately a minute.
Continuing on low speed, blend in the first cup of flour, baking powder and baking soda. Add the remainder of the flour and blend on low speed, just until it disappears.
Place large scoops of dough in a greased baking pan, spread it evenly and sprinkle the chocolate chips on top. Bake in a preheated oven for 7 minutes. Remove from oven and swirl the chocolate chips into the dough using a knife.
Put the bars back into the oven and bake an additional 20-25 minutes, or until light golden brown and the center is firm to the touch and doesn't jiggle.

Notes
Make sure not to overbake, these bars are best when they're moist and just a little gooey. Cool before cutting and storing in an airtight container.
