Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tbsp white vinegar
  • 1/4 tsp ground black pepper
  • 2 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 6 chicken livers
  • 1 (15 oz) can whole water chestnuts, drained and cut into 12 slices
  • 6 slices bacon, cut in half
  • 1/4 cup packed brown sugar

Step 1

To make a marinade, stir together soy sauce, oil, ketchup, vinegar, pepper, and garlic.

Place livers and water chestnuts in a glass baking pan. Add marinade. Cover; refrigerate 4 hours.

Remove livers and water chestnuts from marinade; discard marinade. For each appetizers, wrap 1 piece liver and 1 slice water chestnut in a piece of bacon; secure with a wooden toothpick. Roll appetizers in brown sugar.

Turn on boiler. Place appetizers on broiler tray; broil 3 inches from heat until bacon is crisp and liver is cooked through, about 10 minutes, turning occasionally.
