Ingredients
- 4 C water (1 hot and 3 cold)
- 2 oz or bars of yeast
- 1 T sugar
- 5 lbs. flour
- 2 C sugar
- 1 1/2 C canola oil
- 2 egg
Preparation
Step 1
Directions: Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
1. Combine water and yeast in a bowl and stir in 1 Tablespoon of sugar.
Place near the hot stove and let sit for 10 minutes.
2. Put the flour in a large in a large bowl then remove 2 cups and set it aside.
Stir in 2C sugar and then push the mixture to the side to make a well in the middle.
3. Pour the yeast, 2 eggs (maybe 3) and 1 1/2Cups of oil in the well. Knead until you can no longer see the ingredients.
4. Knead the dough until it no longer sticks to the bowl. Let it rise for 1 1/2 hours with towel as a cover and near a heat source.
5. Do egg wash on top of challah.
6. Add crumb topping or cinnamon/sugar topping.
7. Bake Challah for 35 minutes at 350 degrees.
