Watermelon Sangrita
By Peggie
This cocktail is a hybrid of a sour Margarita and sweet Sangria. Simply combine ingredients in a large pitcher; chill and allow guests to serve themselves. The sugar, salt and cayenne rimmer adds an explosion of flavour upon every sip.
Ingredients
- Rimmer:
- 3 cups (750 mL) Tropicana® Watermelon
- 1/2 bottle (375 mL) white wine, preferably Sauvignon Blanc
- 6 oz (175 mL) Tequila
- 2 oz (60 mL) lime juice
- Soda water
- 4 cups (1 L) cubed watermelon
- 6 wedges watermelon
- 1 lime, thinly sliced into 6 rounds
- Ice cubes
- 1 cup (250 mL) granulated sugar
- 1 tsp (5 mL) salt
- 1/4 tsp (1 mL) cayenne pepper
- Lime wedges
Preparation
Step 1
Rimmer: On small plate, mix together sugar, salt and cayenne pepper. Rub rim of glass with lime wedge. Place glass, rim side down, in sugar mixture to coat evenly; shake off excess and set aside. Repeat with remaining glasses.
In large pitcher, muddle watermelon; add Tropicana® Watermelon, wine, Tequila and lime juice. Refrigerate until well chilled; stir well.
Pour over ice cubes in prepared glasses; top with soda water, as desired. Garnish each glass with watermelon wedge and lime slice.
Tip: Freeze watermelon cubes before muddling for a slushier texture.
