Flaky Pastry Dough

Mom's recipe: NOTE: Mom did this the old fashion way; if you want to save time and you have a food processor, pulse the first four (4) ingredients in a food processor. When the mixture looks like little peas, add the egg and water mixture a little at a time until the dough comes together. DO NOT over mix as the dough will become tough.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 3/4 cup crisco
  • 1 Tbls. sugar
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • 1 egg
  • 5 Tbsl water

Preparation

Step 1

With a fork, mix first four(4) ingredients. In small bowl, beat egg and water together. Add to flour mixture with fork until dry ingredients are moistened. With hands, mold dough in a ball and chill about 15 minutes. Dough can be stored in refrigerator up to three (3) days, or can be frozen for one (1) month; If freezing, wrap in plastic wrap very well and freeze in a zip lock bag.

Makes two pie crust
