Peach Long Cake (Grandma's Recipe)

Try this with strawberries instead of peaches and omit the cinnamon.

Ingredients
- Meanwhile sift:
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- Sprinkle over 3 1/2 to 4 cups sliced, fresh peaches (about 6 to 8)
- Let stand at room temperature.
- 2 cups sifted flour
- 6 tbsp. sugar
- 4 tsp. baking powder
- 3/4 tsp. salt
- Cut in, with knives, or beat until mixture looks crumbly...then add
- 1/3 cup shortening
- 1 large egg, beaten
- 2/3 cup milk
Preparation
Step 1
Stir in flour mixture. Spread dough onto greased baking dish (8 x 12). Spread the sweetened peaches and juices over the top of dough.
Cream together:
1/4 cup softened butter
1/4 cup sugar
3 tbsp. flour
Drop here and there over peaches.
Bake 25 to 30 minutes at 400 degrees.
Serve warm with sweet cream or cool whip.
