Ingredients

  • C A K E:
  • Cream Together:
  • 1 C. Shortening
  • 2 C. Sugar
  • Add & Beat Well:
  • 4 Egg Yolks (save whites)
  • 1 t. Vanilla
  • 1/2 t. Almond Extract
  • Sift Together Dry Ingred. & Alternate with Milk:
  • 3 C. Flour
  • 3 t. Baking Powder
  • 1/4 t. Salt
  • 1 C. Milk
  • Fold in:
  • 4 Egg Whites, beaten
  • Grease and flour sides of 3) 8" round pans with parchment rounds on bottom
  • BAKE 350 30-35 minutes
  • (Can make ahead and freeze the cake layers before frosting)

Preparation

Step 1

7-MINUTE FROSTING:

Heat and place in double boiler:
4 Egg Whites
3 C. Sugar
1 T. + 1 t. light Corn Syrup
2/3 C. Cold Water
dash Salt

Beat over boiling water till soft peaks form. Remove from heat, add 2 tsp. vanilla and beat till spreading consistency.
