Ingredients
- C A K E:
- Cream Together:
- 1 C. Shortening
- 2 C. Sugar
- Add & Beat Well:
- 4 Egg Yolks (save whites)
- 1 t. Vanilla
- 1/2 t. Almond Extract
- Sift Together Dry Ingred. & Alternate with Milk:
- 3 C. Flour
- 3 t. Baking Powder
- 1/4 t. Salt
- 1 C. Milk
- Fold in:
- 4 Egg Whites, beaten
- Grease and flour sides of 3) 8" round pans with parchment rounds on bottom
- BAKE 350 30-35 minutes
- (Can make ahead and freeze the cake layers before frosting)
Preparation
Step 1
7-MINUTE FROSTING:
Heat and place in double boiler:
4 Egg Whites
3 C. Sugar
1 T. + 1 t. light Corn Syrup
2/3 C. Cold Water
dash Salt
Beat over boiling water till soft peaks form. Remove from heat, add 2 tsp. vanilla and beat till spreading consistency.
