Ingredients

  • 1/2 lb butter (2 sticks)
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 (12 oz) bag chocolate chips.
  • 1 + sleeve of saltines
  • chopped nuts (optional)

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat oven to 350.
Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil and spray with cooking spray.
Arrange saltines close together over the whole surface. Break crackers in 1/2 to fill in the edges on the last row or the side.
Cook the butter, sugar and vanilla stirring constantly until it comes to a boil.
Boil for 2 minutes.
Pour the mixture over the crackers, spreading it evenly.
Bake for 12 minutes at 350.
Remove from the oven and pour the chocolate chips over the pan evenly. As they melt, spread evenly over crackers.
Sprinkle with chopped nuts, if desired.
Cool completely. This can be done in the refrigerator.
Once cooled, break into pieces - pulling the aluminum foil off.
Store in an air tight container in a cool place.
