  • 1/2 C sugar
  • 5 C self-rising flour
  • 2 C buttermilk
  • 1/2 C water
  • 1 C vegetable shortening
  • 1 t baking powder
  • 1/2 t salt

Step 1

Preheat oven for 450F

Mix dry ingredients and cut in shortening, then the milk and water. Knead well, fold in half three times. Roll out to 3/4-1in thickness. Cut into circles and place on a baking sheet, let rest for 5min. before baking. Bake for 10-15min, brush with melted butter.
