Ingredients

  • 1-¾

    cup Brown Sugar, divided

  • 1

    cup Flour

  • 1

    cup Dark Cocoa Powder, divided

  • 2

    tsp Baking Powder

  • ¼

    tsp Salt

  • ½

    cup + 2 tbsp Milk

  • cup Butter, melted

  • 1

    tbsp Vanilla or Vanilla Nut Extract

  • ½ to ¾

    cup Kraft Caramel Bits

  • 2

    cups Hot Water

Directions

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Combine 3/4 cup brown sugar, flour, 3/4 cup cocoa, baking powder and salt. Stir in milk, butter and vanilla; beat until smooth. Batter will be stiff. Pour batter into a 9-inch ungreased baking pan. Stir together 1 cup of brown sugar and 1/4 to 1/2 cup cocoa. Sprinkle mixture evenly over the batter. Sprinkle caramel bits evenly over the cocoa/sugar mixture. Pour hot water over top; do not stir! Bake 35 to 40 minutes or until center is almost set. Remove from oven; let stand about 15 minutes. Serve in dessert dishes, spooning sauce from the bottom of the pan over the top of the cake. Garnish with whipped cream or ice cream.
