Applesauce Yeast Bread

Ingredients

  • BREAD
  • 2 Packages Active dry yeast
  • 1 Cup applesauce
  • 2 Eggs (beaten)
  • 1 Teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 Cup warm water
  • 1 Cup margarine (extra soft)
  • 1/4 Cup sugar
  • 4-1/2 Cups sifted flour
  • Cinnamon sugar
  • GLAZE FOR BREAD
  • 2 Tablespoons applesauce
  • 2 Cups sifted confectioner sugar
  • Mix well - spread over baked loaves

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat oven to 350 degrees (F)

1. Combine yeast and water. Stir until completely dissolved.

2. Combine applesauce, margarine, eggs, sugar, salt and dissolved yeast. Stir till smooth.

3. Add flour. Beat until smooth.
Dough will be very soft.
Cover with a damp cloth
Refrigerate for 2 hours or overnight (Can even do up to 4 days)

4. Divide dough into four equal pieces.

5. On a lightly floured board, roll each piece into a 12” x 8” rectangle.

6. Sprinkle each rectangle with cinnamon sugar.

7. Roll up in jelly-roll style, starting with the long side.

8. Place two rolls, side-by-side, on a cookie sheet.
Seal ends together.

9. Braid by carefully lifting one roll over the other several times. Seal the end
Repeat with remaining dough.

10. Cover with a dry towel. Let rise in a warm place, free from drafts, for 1 hour.

11. Bake at 350 degrees (F) for 35 minutes or until golden brown

12. Look above at “GLAZE FOR BREAD” to finish up.
