Easy Butterfly Cupcakes

These cute butterfly cupcakes have Spring written all over them! The domes are trimmed off cooled vanilla cupcakes then cut in half for "wings" and placed at an angle in whipped cream then dusted with sifted confectioners sugar. Centers are decorated with small round candies.

Ingredients

  • Prepared and cooled vanilla cupcakes (I used Betty Crocker Golden Vanilla cake mix)

  • 1

    pint heavy whipping cream

  • 6

    tablespoons confectioners powdered sugar

  • 1/2

    teaspoon vanilla extract

  • Additional confectioners sugar for dusting tops

  • Small round candies for decorating butterflies (I used Sixlets candy)

Directions

Beat whipping cream, confectioners sugar, and vanilla together until stiff peaks form. Refrigerate until needed. Cut the domes off the cupcakes close to the edge of the paper liners; then cut each removed dome in half. Set aside. Generously, spoon or pipe prepared whipped cream on top of cupcakes. For the "wings", arrange 2 half domes at an angle in the whipped cream, leaving about 1/2" between them. Sift confectioners sugar lightly over the "wings". Place 3 candies in the center, between the "wings". Serve immediately, or refrigerate.
