Preparation

Step 1

Whisk 1 cup of baking soda, 1/2 cup of cornstarch, 1/2 cup of lavender-scented Epsom salt and 1/4 cup of cream of tartar together in a large bowl.

In a small bowl, warm 1 1/2 tablespoons of coconut oil until it's liquid (we gave it a quick zap in the microwave for 10 to 15 seconds). Stir 2 teaspoons of essential oil (we like using an "uplifting blend" of citrus and eucalyptus) into the coconut oil.

Add 1/2 cup of dried lavender to the dry ingredients, then slowly whisk in the oil mixture. Mist with a spray bottle of water until the mixture holds its shape when pressed together--it took us about 10 sprays. Be careful not to wet the mixture too much or you will activate the baking soda. Once the mixture is wet enough to pack, scoop it into a large ice cream scoop and continue to pack it in tightly until the scoop is full. Tap out onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Let dry at room temperature overnight.

We like to pack our bath bombs in cupcake liners and stack them in a mason jar to give to mom!
