Ingredients

  • 8 ounces elbow macaroni
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 c chopped onion
  • 3 gloves garlic, minced
  • 8 ounces tomato sauce
  • 3/4 tsp dried mint
  • 1/2 tsp oregano
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 2 tsp butter
  • 3 Tbsp flour
  • 1 1/2 c milk
  • Provolone (sliced) or grated Parmesan Cheese

Preparation

Step 1

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spray 9" square baking pan or casserole dish with nonstick cooking spray. Cook macaroni according to package directions. Drain well, cool slightly.

2. Combine macaroni, slightly beaten eggs and nutmeg, spread in baking dish.

3. Brown hamburger, onion and garlic for 6-8" in large skillet over medium heat, drain fat. Stir in tomato sauce, mint, oregano, pepper and cinnamon. Stir to blend, simmer about 10". Spread evenly over macaroni in baking dish.

4.Melt butter in small saucepan. Add flour, cook and stir 1". Whisk in milk and cook 6" or until thickened, stirring constantly. Pour sauce over meat mixture.

5. Bake 30-45".

6. Add cheese on top and bake about 15", or until cheese is melted. Put under broiler for 1-2" if you want the cheese a bit crusty.
