Ingredients

  • 1/2 C. Shortening or 1 stick of Butter
  • 1/2 C. Baking Cocoa
  • 1 C. Sugar
  • 2 Eggs
  • 1 t. Vanilla
  • 1/2 C. All Purpose Flour
  • 1/4 t. Salt
  • 1/2 C. Chopped Nuts (optional)

Step 1

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees and grease an 8x8x2 inch pan. In a medium saucepan melt shortening over low heat (or melt shortening in microwave in a one quart dish). Remove melted shortening from heat and add Cocoa. Stir until well blended.

2. Add Sugar and mix well. Add Eggs, one at a time, and beat well. Stir in Vanilla, Flour and Salt. DO NOT OVERBEAT. Fold in Nuts. Spread in prepared pan and Bake 25 to 30 minutes or until a wooden toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Frost with "Cocoa Butter Frosting".
