Step 1

To seal out sogginess, brush the crust with egg whites or dust it with a combination of 1 Tbsp. flour and sugar. Sealing moisture-proofs it.

To maximize flakiness - use a combination of butter and shortening - 3/4 cup butter to 1/2 cup shortening.
