Ingredients
- 2 1/2 cups flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 cups softened butter
- 3 eggs
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 1/2 tablespoon Anise liquid
- 1 1/2 tablespoon Anise seed
- 2 tablespoon water
- 1 teaspoon orange extract (mix orange extract and water together)
- 1 tablespoon of vanilla
Preparation
Step 1
In a small bowl put flour and baking powder set aside. In another bowl cream butter till fluffy, add anise seed, anise liquid, eggs, orange water and vanilla and mix well. Mix half of the flour mixture in and when combined add the rest of the flour mixture.
Chill dough 2 1/2 hours.
Divide dough in half on a floured surface. Shape each half into a flat loaf about 2" wide and 1/2" thick, I make mine wider than 2 1/2".
Place loaves about 6" apart on a greased cookie sheet. Bake at 375 for 20 min.
Remove the cookie sheet from oven and slice loves diagonally. Once sliced put the cookies on their sides and return back into oven until toasted. remove cookies sheet and flip cookies onto the other side, return cookie
sheet into oven and toast until brown.
It's a lot of work, but they are worth it. Merry Christmas and Bon Appetite
