Ingredients
- 1/2 cup Crisco (frozen)
- 2 1/4 cup self-rising flour
- 1 1/4 cup buttermilk
- 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
- Egg wash

Preparation
Step 1
Pour flour into a large COLD bowl
Cut Crisco with a sharp knife into small pieces (up to 1/3 inch)
Mix Crisco with flour (slowly)
Add buttermilk to dry ingredients and mix gently
Add cream of tartar
Cover and chill for 10 minutes
Knead dough 3 or 4 times on a flat surface. Add flour if needed
Press dough in 3/4 or 1 inch thick rectangle
Cut dough with a 2-inch circle and place on parchment paper
Brush with eggwash
Bake 450 for 18 1/2 minutes
