Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp. vegetable oil
  • 3/4 cup chopped yellow onion
  • 2 tbsp. chopped garlic
  • 4 cups ketchup
  • 1/2 cup dark brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp. cane syrup
  • 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1/2 cup yellow mustard
  • 1/4 cup worchestshire sauce
  • 3 tbsp. hot red pepper sauce
  • 2 tsp. Essence (Emeril's Creole Seasoning)
  • 1/2 tsp. red pepper flakes (or more to taste)

  • 2 1/2 tbsp. paprika
  • 2 tbsp. salt
  • 2 tbsp. garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp. black pepper
  • 1 tbsp. onion powder
  • 1 tbsp. cayenne pepper
  • 1 tbsp. dried leaf oregano
  • 1 tbsp. dried thyme
  • combine all ingredients thoroughly and store in an air tight container*

Step 1

In a large pot heat the oil over medium heat. Add the onions and cook, stirring for 4 minutes. Add the garlic and cook, stirring for 1 minute. Add the ketchup, brown sugar, cane syrup, vinegar, mustard, worchestshire sauce, hot sauce, Essence and red pepper flakes. Bring to a boil. Lower the heat and simmer, stirring occasionally, until thickened and the flavors marry, 15 to 20 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool slightly before serving.
