These delicious chocolate and nut toffee bars are great to make during the holidays. You can package them up and give as gifts or as part of a cookie exchange. Yum!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed solid
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 6 ounces Hershey chocolate bars
  • 1 cup pecans or almonds, chopped

Step 1

In a large bowl, mix butter and brown sugar until creamy. Add egg yolk and vanilla and beat until well blended.

Sift dry ingredients together and stir into sugar mixture. Dough will be stiff. Spread into a 10x15-inch pan or cookie sheet and bake at 350°F for 15 to 20 minutes.

Remove from oven and sprinkle with broken chocolate pieces. As it melts, spread evenly. Sprinkle with nuts.

Let cool completely, then cut into squares.
