Ingredients

  • 3/4

    cup Butter; softened

  • 1

    cup white sugar

  • 2

    eggs

  • 1/2

    teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 2-1/2

    cup all-purpose flour

  • 1

    teaspoon Baking Powder

Directions

In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until smooth. Beat in eggs and vanilla. Stir in flour, baking powder and salt. Cover and chill dough in two pieces wrapped in plastic wrap for at least one hour (or preferably over night). Preheat oven to 400°F. On a floured surface, roll out dough to 1/4 inch thick. (Roll one half at a time. Use lightly floured board and rolling pin.) Cut nto shapes with any cookie cutter. Place cookies one inch apart on ungreased cookie sheets. Sprinkle with colored sugar. Bake 10 minutes. Cool completely. Yields approximately 24 cookies. Can double recipe.
