Braised Beef

One of Catherine's recipes that she sent to me in Arkansas when I was first married...still have the one she typed at Balfour!

Ingredients

  • 3 tbs bacon far (I usually use cooking spray)
  • 2 lbs stew beef (sirloin tips are great if on sale!)
  • 3 lg onions sliced
  • 1/4 tsp Worcestershire
  • 3 tbs flour
  • 1 tbs vinegar
  • 2 tbs ketchup
  • 1 tsp salt
  • Braise beef on all sides
  • Add onions - fry lightly
  • Add remaining ingredients plus 2 cups boiling water
  • Cover and simmer for 1 1/2 hours. Add additional water if necessary
  • Serve with mashed potatoes (or rice - or noodles, but potatoes best)
