Broiled apples

Ingredients
- 6 sweet firm apples (i.e. Empires)- peeled, cored and cut into 8-10 wedges
- 1/3 c fresh lemon juice
- 4 T melted butter
- 3/4 c sugar
- 1/3 c rum or 1/2 c maple syrup
- 2 pints vanilla ice cream

Step 1
Turn on broiler.
Toss apples with lemon juice, butter, and all but 2 T of the butter. (Can stop at this point and store for up to 1 day in Ziplock bag in fridge.)
Arrange on a baking sheet in single layer. Broil ~8 inches from heat 8-10 minutes or until tender.
Sprinkle with remaining 2 T of sugar and broil until melted.
Meanwhile, heat the rum or maple syrup in small saucepan over low heat.
Serve apples warm with vanilla ice cream. Drizzle with warm rum or syrup.
