Greek pasta dish, similar to lasagna, with meat and bechamel sauce.

    lbs. ground beef

  • bit of olive oil

    large onion

  • 5

    cloves of garlic

  • 1

    small can tomato paste

  • 1

    Tbs. cinnamon

  • salt / pepper

    packages pastistio noodles

  • 6

    Tbs. butter

  • 6

    Tbs flour

  • 4 -6

    cups milk

  • 3

    beef bouillon cubes

    cups grated sharp dry grating cheese - (kefoloteri, pedano, parmesian)

    teas. nutmeg


Brown beef and drain, while draining, saute onion, garlic in olive oil in the same pan, add beef, tomato paste and cinnamon salt pepper, and simmer. Cook noodles in salted water, with a bit of olive oil in it, al dente, drain and set aside For bechamel sauce..melt butter, add the flour and stir till blended and smooth. Slowly add milk, whisking constantly. Add enough milk till the consistency of pancake batter. add in beef bouillon. cool. Beat eggs well and whisk into milk mixture, add in nutmeg, and grated cheese, reserving 1/2 cup to the side. Mix 1 1/2 cups of bechamel sauce into drained noodles Put 1/2 of the noodles in tapsi, layer on the beef and cover with remaining noodles. Pour on the bechamel, covering the noodles. sprinkle on reserved cheese and bake at 350 till golden.
