SPICY CRINKLES

Ingredients

  • 3/4 c. vegetable shortening
  • 1 c. packed light brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 c. molasses
  • 2 1/4 c. all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. ground ginger
  • 1 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp. ground pepper
  • 1/4 tsp. ground allspice
  • 1/4 tsp. ground cloves
  • Turbinado (raw) sugar, granulated sugar or sanding sugar

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

In large bowl, cream shortening and brown sugar on medium speed of electric mixer until light and fluffy. Add egg and molasses; beat well.

Whisk together flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, pepper, allspice and cloves; add to creamed mixture and beat just until combined.

Shape dough into 1" balls; roll in turbinado sugar (or sugar of your choice) and place on ungreased cookie sheets.

Bake @ 375 degrees for 8-10 minutes or until cookies are set and top is crackled.
