Ingredients

  • Royal Icing:
  • 4 1/2 sticks butter
  • 3 c. sugar
  • 6 eggs
  • 3 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 1/2 c. powdered sugar
  • 7 1/2 c. flour
  • 3 t. baking powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 3 oz. egg whites
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 4 c. confectioners sugar

Preparation

Step 1

In a large bowl cream together butter and sugars until smooth. Beat in eggs and vanilla. Stir in the flour, baking powder and salt. Cover and chill dough for at least 1 hour or overnight. Preheat oven to 400°. Roll out dough on floured surface 1/4" thick. Cut into shapes. Place cookies 1" apart on ungreased cookie sheets. Bake 6-8 minutes until just starting to turn light brown.

Beat ingredients for royal icing together. Adjust consistency by adding more powdered sugar or a little milk.
