Ingredients
- Dough:
- 3 1/4 c. flour
- 1/2 c. potato flakes
- 3 T. sugar
- 1 1/2 tsp. yeast
- 1 1/4 tsp. salt
- 3 T. butter
- 1 t. vanilla
- 1 large egg
- 1 c. milk
- Filling:
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 3 T. flour
- 3 tsp. apple pie spice
- 1 1/4 c. peeled, diced apples
- 1 T. lemon juice
- Glaze:
- 1 c. confectioner's sugar
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1-2 T. milk
Preparation
Step 1
Dough:
Mix all of the dough ingredients in mixer with dough hook attached. Place dough in greased bowl, turning to coat and let rise 1 1/2-2 hours or until doubled in bulk.
Filling:
Toss all filling ingredients together.
When dough has risen gently deflate and turn 1/2 of it out onto a floured surface. Roll into a 10"x12" rectangle. Spread 1/2 the filling over the rolled-out dough, leaving a 1/2" margin along sides. Starting with long side, roll the dough into a log, sealing the edge. Use a pizza cutter or sharp knife to cut the log in half lengthwise. Place the half-logs, filled side up, side by side on a parchment lined baking sheet. Keeping the filling side up, braid the 2 logs together, working from the center to each end. Pinch ends together. Repeat with the second piece of dough. Cover logs lightly and let rise for 1-2 hours.
Bake loaves in preheated 350° oven for 30-35 minutes until lightly browned.
Glaze:
Mix glaze ingredients together and drizzle over logs once they've cooled.
