Ingredients

  • 3 cups water
  • 1 cup vinegar
  • 3/4 onion, chopped
  • 6 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce - Lea & Perrins preferred
  • 3 tablespoons tomato ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 1/2 pounds beef spareribs
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon red wine

Preparation

Step 1

1. Preheat oven to broiling temperature. Broil spareribs just
until brown.

2. Meanwhile, combine remaining ingredients (except cornstarch
and red wine) in a saucepan and boil for 10 minutes.

3. Dissolve the cornstarch in the red wine. Add to the sauce
and cook, stirring constantly, until it is slightly thickened.

4. Reduce oven temperature to 450ºF. Lay the ribs in a large
enough pan, at least 2 inches deep. Cover the ribs with the sauce
and bake for 1 hour.
