Ingredients

  • 3

    cups water

  • 1

    cup vinegar

  • 3/4

    onion, chopped

  • 6

    cloves garlic, chopped

  • 1 1/2

tablespoons Worcestershire sauce - Lea & Perrins preferred

  • 3

    tablespoons tomato ketchup

  • 1

    tablespoon salt

  • 1/4

    teaspoon pepper

  • 1

    bay leaf

  • 1 1/2

    pounds beef spareribs

  • 2

    tablespoons cornstarch

  • 1

    tablespoon red wine

Directions

1. Preheat oven to broiling temperature. Broil spareribs just until brown. 2. Meanwhile, combine remaining ingredients (except cornstarch and red wine) in a saucepan and boil for 10 minutes. 3. Dissolve the cornstarch in the red wine. Add to the sauce and cook, stirring constantly, until it is slightly thickened. 4. Reduce oven temperature to 450ºF. Lay the ribs in a large enough pan, at least 2 inches deep. Cover the ribs with the sauce and bake for 1 hour.
