Ingredients
- 1 yellow onion, diced
- 1 yellow bell pepper, diced
- olive oil for sautéing
- 1 1/4 pounds ground beef
- 1 1/3 cups ketchup
- 2 tablespoons white vinegar
- 1 heaping tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon chile powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika, smoked paprika if you have it
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 2/3 cups water
- Sandwich or hamburger rolls
Preparation
Step 1
1. In a large skillet, heat 2 tablespoons oil over medium-low heat and cook onion and pepper until tender. Remove them from the skillet and set aside.
2. In the same pan, brown the beef over medium heat breaking it apart as it cooks. Once cooked drain off the grease.
3. Add sautéed vegetables back into the pan along with ketchup, vinegar, brown sugar, spices, salt, pepper and water. Bring to a simmer and cook about 20 minutes, or until water is absorbed, stirring often.
