Baked French Toast

  • Topping:
  • Butter (for greasing)
  • 1 loaf sourdough, french bread, or croissants
  • 8 eggs
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 Tbls vanilla
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1/2 brown sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • grated nutmeg (optional)
  • 1 stick cold butter, cut into pieces
  • warm syrup
  • Butter (for serving)
  • 1 cup fresh blueberries



Step 1

Grease baking pan with butter. Tear bread into chunks/cubes.
Put into pan. Which together eggs, milk. cream, sugar, brown sugar, and vanilla. Pour evenly over bread. Cover pan tightly and and store in the fridge until needed (overnight preferably). Or you can bake it right away.

For the topping:
Mix flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, salt and some nutmeg. Add butter and with a pastry cutter, mix until the mixture resembles fine pebbles. Store in a plastic bag in the fridge.

Preheat oven to 350. Sprinkle topping over casserole. Bake for 45 minutes (for a softer "bread pudding" texture) or for 1 hour for firmer, crispier texture.

Top with butter, syrup, and blueberries.
