Ingredients
- 1 stick (4-ounces) butter room temperature
- 1 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1/2 cup sugar, white granulated
- 2 cups flour, all-purpose

- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- Topping
- 1 bar (5-ounces) Heath® bar, broken 1/4 inch thick
- 1/4 cup pecans, toasted chopped
Preparation
Step 1
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease a 9x13 inch Pyrex® baking dish.
Step 1
Place these first 4 ingredients in a bowl and mix well in with an electric mixer.
Take out 1/2 cup of this mixture to use for the topping.
Step 2
In the bowl with the remaining mixture in it, add the next 4 ingredients for the bars and mix until all dry ingredients are moistened:

For the topping, add the following to the 1/2 cup of reserved mix:
5 oz. crushed Heath® bars (roughly 1/4 inch square pieces)
1/4 chopped pecans
Pour the batter into prepared baking dish and spread until even.
Sprinkle the topping over the batter evenly.
Bake at 350 degrees for about 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Slice into bars and serve
Makes about 32 bars.
