Bratwursts In Beer

Ingredients

  • 6 uncooked bratwurst links (about I 1/4 pounds total)
  • 3 (12-ounce) cans beer
  • 6 frankfurter buns, split and toasted
  • Various mustards
  • Ketchup
  • 1 (8-ounce) can sauerkraut, heated and drained (optional)

Preparation

Step 1

Use the tines of a fork to prick several holes in each bratwurst. In a Dutch oven combine bratwursts and beer. Bring to boiling; reduce heat. Simmer, covered, about 20 minutes or until bratwursts are no longer pink; drain.

For a charcoal grill, grill bratwursts on the rack of an uncovered grill directly over medium coals for 7 to 8 minutes or until bratwursts are browned, turning once halfway through grilling. (For a gas grill, preheat grill. Reduce heat to medium. Place bratwursts on grill rack over heat. Cover and grill as above.) Remove bratwursts from grill.

Serve bratwursts in toasted buns with mustards, ketchup, and, if desired, sauerkraut. Makes 6 servings.
