Ingredients
- Cake:
- 6 eggs separated
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/3 cup cold water
- 1 1/3 cup cake flour
- 2 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- Frosting:
- 2 cups milk
- 1 egg
- 1/3 cup corn starch
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 1/2 # butter softened
- 1 cup powered sugar
Preparation
Step 1
Beat egg whites until stiff. Set aside. Beat egg yolks with sugar, add cold water and flour, soda, and salt. Fold in egg whites. Put in an ungreased angel food pan. Bake at 350 for 25 minutes. Invert pan to cool. When cold, slice into 3 layers.
Frosting:
In saucepan, cook milk, egg, cornstarch, vanilla, and sugar. Cook until thick and then cool. Cream butter and powered sugar. Add custard and beat well. Frost between layers, top and sides.
